My Artist Statement

Nature is my greatest inspiration. My seascapes, landscapes and wildlife animals paintings reflect all my love for them. Each painting aims to evoke distinct emotions through colour and composition.

Sometimes, it's calm and tranquil when you look into the movement of the quiet blue sea or a peaceful comforting landscape. Other times, I try to evoke the feeling of joy and excitement that you can feel in a colourful sunset, watching crashing waves or dancing reflections in water.

Calm, peace and comfort are the main feelings that I try to evoke with my art and my favourite blue and brown colours. I try to intertwine them with joy, fun and freedom using a pop of colour and different techniques that I incorporate into my artworks to bring nature's beauty to life.

Nature can ground us and bring us comfort, whilst keeping us away from the fast pace of everyday life and leading us back to a quiet place where we can immerse ourselves in its beauty.

Ralice Art is my creative space where I am committed to exploring the beauty of nature, pushing my artistic boundaries and teaching art classes to art enthusiasts worldwide with prerecorded classes and live workshops. I create my original paintings and art classes with love and excitement and enjoy sharing my secrets, my techniques and the ideas behind my art with my community. I am a firm believer that anyone can learn to paint if you just put in the time and effort to learn how. Regardless of your age and the time that you have each day, with the right guidance you can learn any skill a lot faster and make your dreams come true.

About The Process

I paint mainly with watercolours in an impressionist style, using a lot of loose techniques like bold brush strokes, splattering paint and water, using cling film, table salt and sometimes even painting with my fingers. That allows me to feel free, excited and wild in the initial stages of the painting. All of the expressions that those techniques allow me to present onto paper were ultimately what made me fall in love with watercolour in the first place. This is the stage of the painting where I can fall deep into the flow and immerse myself in the process.

After those initial stages, I incorporate into my work more deliberate techniques to depict the focal point and bring the focus of the viewer to the main subject. That allows me to put the whole piece together. Even though the majority of my works are created with pure watercolour, at the last stage of my work sometimes I experiment with different mixed media techniques. Lately, I enjoy using guache, watercolour pencils, dry pastels and ink as compliments to watercolour.

Why Am I Painting?

Creativity has always been my passion since I was a young child. From drawing to painting and sculpting, I was always fascinated by art. However, life took me on a different path, and I found myself learning sewing instead. Then I studied Psychology and Psychopathology for my Bachelor & Masters degree, but a few years ago at the beginning of the pandemic, art found its way back into my life.

A few months before I got pregnant with my first child I started painting, taking small steps each day to refine my skills. Watercolour became a true love with its fluid nature, unpredictable movements, granulating properties and exciting effects, a secret language my soul understood and started yarning for.

For the past four years, painting has been my daily adventure. I have always been excited about learning and growing, exploring different ways to develop my skills and knowledge and it was inevitable for me to decide to start pursuing an art career and carving my path in the art world.

I have found many books, courses and different mentors, who have helped me to learn drawing, and painting and to learn faster. Studying art on my terms also allowed me to be able to look after my kids and take care of them. That's one of the reasons why I usually work when my partner is off of work, during the night once my kids are in bed or if they magically decide to have a nap simultaneously. A rare peaceful occurrence with a toddler and a baby.

Why Nature?

I was four years old when I learned to swim and enjoy the beauty of the sea. Whilst growing up I remember spending our whole summers from dusk to dawn on the beach with our family and friends and that never fully changed throughout the years. Dazzling sunsets and a simple life are what my memories remind me and I am trying to translate them into the art I create.

I grew up in an agricultural family living surrounded by our orchard trees, gorgeous mountains and the big Black Sea. They have influenced my love for nature and when I started painting in my adulthood it was more than obvious for me what I wanted to explore more of. All I wanted was to depict my love for nature, to share it with the world and to help more people to create a comforting place, where they can slow down and immerse themself in the beauty of nature.

When I share my artwork I often incorporate motivational quotes from people that inspire me or share simple narratives and some of the poems that I write sometimes. I hope that they will help us to connect deeper to ourselves and the natural world.

What are my brand values?

Quality and sustainability are very important to me. I use the finest quality materials both for my original paintings and my art prints and I always try to pack my art classes with value.

All of my original paintings are hand-painted by me. In my work, I use only the best cotton fibre papers. They are all heavyweight and acid-free, ensuring that they will be very durable, easy to work on and will handle many layers if necessary. That also means that they will retain the vibrancy of the colours used for generations to come. For me that is a lot more valuable than to use cheap materials, that will keep me and my customers frustrated. It`s just not for me.

The paints and other mixed media materials that I use are always of the highest quality. Using materials with excellent lightfast properties ensures that the colours will remain vibrant and fresh and won`t be full of fillers. *

*Please make sure that you are following the instructions in the care guide that is provided with each original and print in my shop to ensure the longevity of your artwork.

I understand that owning an original artwork is more of a luxury that not everyone can afford, hence I also offer fine art prints of my original artworks, so more art lovers can enjoy them.

My prints are hand-scanned personally by me with a super high-resolution scanner. After that, I edit each file by myself to ensure that they are clean, colour-corrected and in perfect condition ready for print. My prints are made from environmentally friendly materials and printed using water-based inks. They are made from sustainably sourced cotton paper or wood from sustainable forests.

For the production and delivery process of my prints, I have chosen professional partners whose values match my desire for sustainable production and shipping, minimising waste and supporting a cleaner planet.
The packaging for my prints and originals is eco-friendly, made from recycled and recyclable materials. I work with partners using local fulfilment that reduces carbon emissions in the shipment of our fine art prints. I partner with a few different suppliers in the UK, Europe, US, Canada and Australia.

I have partnered with the Eden Reforestation Projects, that is in partnership with thegoodapi.com to give back to our planet. I contribute a % of each sale towards tree planting, because reforestation efforts revive natural habitats, improve coral reef health, support local livelihoods and aid in the fight against climate change by extracting CO2 from the air. To be exact you are contributing to the planting of 1 tree for each product that you are ordering from my site www.raliceart.com . This is my way of protecting and supporting the environment that inspires me and my work.
