For this class your project is to paint a wave using the a-la-prima method and share it in the project and resourses section of this class.
If you feel intimidated, feel free to omit the distant island and paint just the crashing wave, but otherwise I will encourage you to try to paint the whole painting, just so you can see that you can do it.

In this class, you’ll complete two beautiful underwater-themed projects that will allow you to apply the techniques you’ve learned.

Tropical Watercolour Seascapes: Learn to Compose Your Own Summer Paintings

In this class, you’ll learn how to create stunning tropical seascapes featuring distant islands, palm trees, and the calming blues of the ocean. Even if you’ve never painted with watercolors before, don’t worry—I’ll guide you every step of the way, starting with the basics and gradually building up your skills.
This class is packed with valuable insights and practical techniques, broken down into three major parts:
Composing a Painting: We’ll begin with the essentials. You’ll learn about basic watercolor techniques like wet-on-wet, wet-on-dry, and dry-brushing. I’ll also cover loose watercolor techniques for a more relaxed style, as well as key principles of perspective and composition. You’ll discover how to mix colors effectively to avoid muddy results and how to create a harmonious, cohesive painting that really comes together.
Exercises: Once you’ve grasped the basics, it’s time to get hands-on! We’ll work through a series of exercises designed to help you practice and refine your skills. You’ll paint four simple skies that set different moods for your seascapes, and explore how to depict distant islands in varying levels of detail. We’ll also cover how to draw and paint different types of palm trees. These exercises are not just about practice—they’re about building your confidence and preparing you for more complex work.
Final Projects: Now it’s time to put everything you’ve learned into practice with four guided projects.
