Master Soft and Dreamy Clouds in Watercolor - Live Class on 15th Nov
Experience the joy of painting with real-time guidance in my live watercolor classes! Together, we’ll create step-by-step paintings that let you explore techniques, ask questions, and grow at your own pace. Each class is designed to be fun and relaxed, with no rush to finish - so I can answer all your questions, whether it’s before we start, between the layers, or at the end of our session.
We’ll be painting a vibrant sky filled with majestic clouds by popular demand! Many of you have asked for cloud tutorials on Instagram and in art groups, and I couldn’t be more excited to explore this theme with you.
There’s something incredibly uplifting about painting clouds. Each brushstroke lets us capture the sky`s energy, softness, and beauty, creating scenes that evoke tranquillity, wonder and drama.
In this live class, I’ll show you techniques for creating smooth colour blends, creating texture, and layering to give your clouds depth and vibrancy. Whether you’re new to watercolour or looking to master skies, this class will equip you with the skills to paint breathtaking clouds independently.
Join me live, and let’s transform a blank paper into a dreamy sky filled with radiant, colourful clouds!
The class recording is now available in the PDF file you will receive when you purchase this class.
*Please excuse me for feeling a bit uncomfortable and rambling a bit in the first part of the class, where I am sharing some colour theory. I still suggest that you watch it, this way you will feel more confident and will understand easier each step during the actual demo painting.
Have fun with this painting and don`t forget to tag me if you are sharing your finished painting on socials. Can`t wait to see your creations.

Paper:
Paper for practicing colour mixing and value study - 2 sheets of A4 (9x12”) or one large sheet divided into 2
1 large sheet of paper for the final project - 28х38cm (¼ Imperial Sheet) or A3 (12x16”)
Saunders Waterford, Cold Pressed 100% cotton watercolor paper in 300 gsm (140 lb). I will use the same paper for practicing and for the final project.
* 100% cotton watercolor paper of any other brand is suitable for this work, although Cold Presses (NOT) or Rough textures are recommended, as well as a paper density no less than 200 gsm. 300gsm is the best density for this project, but 200 gms can do the job too, if you are used to it.
Watercolor paints:
You can use your favourite watercolors of any brand, in tubes or pans. Just don’t forget to mix them with each other before you start to check what blends they give. For the best results use student grade or professional artist grade paints.
I don`t recommend cheap store bought paints for this style of painting, but you do as you wish.
In this class you have complete freedom of creativity towards colors. All the colors that I use can be replaced with others. In our practice part I will explain why the exact colours are not so important.
However for your convenience you will see the colours for our final project listed below and few of my current favourite colours for Cloud Painting.
Naples yellow (You can try to replace it with warm yellow that won`t easily create green when mixed with blue, or mix your yellow with a paint containing white pigment by yourself until you have similar results. Do not mix too many colours, as that can create mud in the finished painting.)
Permanent Alizarin Crimson (Any cool red will give similar results - Quinacridone Rose, Opera Pink, Quinacridone Magenta, Carmine etc.)
Cobalt Blue or French Ultramarine (I use granulating warm blue to separate the pigment in the purple mixture and create a dramatic glow.)
Payne’s Grey
White Gouache (Optional if you want to add lights on the buildings.)
& My all time favourites:
French Ultramarine + Burnt Sienna or English Red. You can even add Yellow Ochre for glow. I use them for any painting
Brushes:
Soft flat brush for wetting the initial later on the paper (pony, goat, or synthetic for watercolour) – size 20-30 (I use 2” Hake Brush)
Round pointed brushes – size 4, 8, 12 or medium size chinese calligraphy brushes
Round pointed synthetic or liner brush- optional for more control, when painting the smaller clouds.
Fan brush for blending.
Additional Materials:
Water Containers - I use 2 glass jars with water
Waterproof plastic board 30х40 cm (or according to the size of your paper). If you don`t have plastic board you can cover a board with the size of the paper with a cling film. You can reuse it for limitless number of uses and it will be great)
Pencil НВ and erasers: ordinary and soft
Paper towels & Tea Towel/ Cotton cloth.
Masking paper tape or/and paper clips if you are using small size paper and not wetting the paper on both sides.
Palette for mixing your paints
